The Pat on Sports: TNA Wrestling

Most of you that know me know that I am a huge wrestling fan. I enjoy wrestling ranging from the glitz of WWE down to wrestling on the local level.
Lately TNA wrestling has caught my eye. It reminds me of the old WCW pre Monday Night Wars.
Recently they made a huge coup by adding former WWE champion and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle to their roster. This is not unlike ten years ago when Scott “Razor Ramone” Hall showed up on Monday Nitro and started a little something called the NWO. This kick started a golden age of wrestling that has since crumbled into a dark age.
I now have high hopes that TNA can start a new war that only the fans will benefit from. They already have a lot of established stars and some WWE refuges.
Sting is back in the NWA-TNA title picture. He was the embodiment of all that was good about WCW before they started bottoming out. He is an icon and the only major star in the wrestling world to never compete in a WWE ring. Even at his age he is still a franchise player and can draw a crowd.
Christian Cage, known simply as Christian in WWE, is also on top of his game here. He was never a serious main eventer in the WWE but has become a stand out in TNA. He could really shine here.
Raven was one of the men the original, and much better, ECW was built around. He is the kind of man who is a solid performer and has a well developed character that has stood the test of time. He still has a great fan base and puts on solid matches
Team 3D were once known as the Dudley Boyz. They are the Road Warriors of this generation of tag teams. They are innovative in their double team moves and always bring interesting dynamics to their matches.
TNA also has a great stock of talent that was never a big part of WWE, WCW, or ECW. These are the people that truly put them in a better position than WWE is at this point.
A lot of these young talents are members of the X division. This is the most exciting brand of sport entertainment out there. It is a cross between hardcore wrestling and cruiserweight wrestling. If you have never seen an X division match you need to check one out.
Samoa Joe is a piece of homegrown TNA talent that has limitless potential. His style is aggressive and is a cross between scientific wrestling and UFC style fighting. A pending feud between Joe and Kurt Angle could really put TNA on the map.
Local should also watch TNA for a chance to see former Campbell County resident David Young, not to be confused with You, Me, and David G. David Young. He is truly an outstanding wrestler and I am proud to say he is from our town. Though he isn’t a main eventer there he is a great talent and puts on some of the best matches out there.
I hope that any of you that are wrestling fans out there that have not checked out TNA yet will do so soon. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
